Why is morning exercise important for students?
I get it… waking up early to exercise can be tedious, but the benefits of an early start make it all worth it. Not only does it provide physical and academic benefits, but also affords an opportunity for students and teachers to build rapport outside of the classroom.
The main goal of morning exercise is to start the day off with a purpose. Exercise gets the blood flowing and increases the amount of oxygen that gets to the brain. It also releases endorphins in the body – providing children with an increase in focus for between 4 to 10 hours. By moving exercise to the morning, children will reap the benefits throughout the entire school day.
According to the First Step Sports Group (February 5, 2019), the 6 main benefits of doing exercise in the morning for adolescents are:
Improved productivity
Increased cognitive function
Boosted metabolism
Better mood
More energy
Better behaviour
Students enter their day with vigour and endless possibilities to make an impact. Morning exercise is a vital component in our school and we hope that all students take advantage of their sessions each morning.
